Sights of China (3)

This man is 93 years old on our campus. We see him getting boxes for recycling. If you go the this magazine article, http://www.meridianmagazine.com/ideas/081201china.html it was written by our neighbor, Steve Orton, and you will see another picture of this man. He doesn't ever speak, but he does wave at us all the time.

We often see things that just don't quite get translated correctly!!

This is the corn cobs drying. These huge wreaths are put on someone's grave when they die. Most people are cremated here.

The Famen Temple was established during the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220) and is the most famous Buddhist temple in China. At the center of the temple is a 13 tiered octagonal pagoda. In 1987 during the reconstruction of the Pagoda after a partial collapse, and underground palace was discovered, along with royal treasures and jewelry. The most precious find is the sliver of a finger bone to the Sakyamuni Buddha. This is the biggest Buddhist underground palace discovered so far. It is very likely that there are many underground discoveries yet to be made in China.

This is supposed to be praying hands to Buddha and is still under construction.

We are buying a sweet potato that has been roasted in a big barrel. They weigh it on their little scale and then charge us 3 yuan (about 30 cents). They are delicious.

This is the road crew planting the trees by hand.

The trees waiting to be planted and their root ball.

Children waiting for the school bus in the mornings and their grandparent waiting with them.
